About Me

My daughter was diagnosed with dyscalculia six years ago. Unsupported at school she fell further and further behind. My frustration with her school, that did not recognise dyscalculic learners or have in place procedures to support them, turned into action.

I am now a specialist dyscalculic tutor working towards a PGDip at the University o Chester that carries with it the qualification to diagnose maths learning difficulties.

I also work in a mixed secondary school, supporting learners with Education and Health Care Plans in the classroom, screening pupils who have been identified as having persistent and unexplained difficulties in maths, and providing maths intervention.

How can I help?

I understand that you may feel anxious about choosing the right tutor to support your child. That’s why my first session is free and will be an opportunity to meet, to get to know your child and discuss the issues they have faced.

If you decide to progress, I will assess your child over the next few weeks using a mixture of practical, hands-on activities and some standardised tests. The results of this will be used to inform my teaching practice. More detailed reports can be made available on request.

Lessons last one hour and use a multi-sensory, games-based approach, whilst developing memory skills and including frequent revision sessions. At the end of each lesson, your child will have the opportunity to evaluate their session. Regular assessments will be undertaken to keep track of your child’s progress.

Lessons take place during term-time only.
