I trained as a secondary maths teacher over 20 years, and worked in schools up until 2010.  At this point I moved into teaching maths in FE – I specialised in teaching basic skills maths and GCSE to those on the C/D border.  Wherever I worked there was a large number of children with undiagnosed learning difficulties in maths – SENCOs couldn’t often provide the specific support in schools and study skills tutors in FE didn’t either, which was why I felt it was important  to train as a specialist in this area.

I now work as an independant Dyscalculia assessor and private tutor. Private tuition is for students with maths anxiety, maths learning difficulties, dyscalculia, or are just struggling to keep up with maths in school. I assess all ages from 8.5 years up to and including adults. I am able to do this as I am an experienced maths teacher of both children and adults. I also train teachers in the further education sector to develop general teaching skills, and fundamentlaly developing inclusive classrooms and supporting learners that have SpLD in maths or dyscalculia.

Specialist tutoring is based around targeted programmes of learning that are based around a multisensory approach.  Students learn in a comfortable environment, without any pressure, using concrete materials, and learning this way means they thrive. Lessons can be online or in person.

I also offer staff training for education staff on maths difficulties & Dyscalculia – identifying difficulties and supporting students.

Client Reference
“Nic provided maths tuition for my daughter, she was so supportive, encouraging and patient when my daughter was convinced she was not going to do well. The support was perfect and my daughter was delighted with her result. I would highly recommend Nic as she has a natural ability to put students at ease and help them to believe in themselves.” Sarah

“Maths has never been my strong suit and before I started my tutoring classes with Nicki, I didn’t enjoy it either. Nicki made the classes fun whilst still being educational. I would definitely recommend maths tuition with Nicki to anyone wishing to get some extra help in the subject. She was a lifesaver for me when revising for my exams. Thank you Nicki for all your help!” Ruby
