I am a specialist teacher and diagnostic assessor for dyslexia and dyscalculia, with over 18 years’ experience in education. Throughout my career, I have held senior leadership roles including Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, Head of SEN and Special Educational Needs Coordinator. I have worked with children and young people aged 2–18 across UK state, independent and international schools and have experience of teaching and supporting mathematics from the early development of number sense through to GCSE level. Through my practice, Inclusive Education Services, I provide diagnostic assessments, specialist tuition and guidance for families of children with specific learning difficulties. I have in-depth specialist knowledge of dyscalculia and a particular interest in supporting children who have developed low confidence or anxiety around mathematics.
My educational approach begins with listening to each child, observing them closely and developing a genuine understanding of how they learn. Sessions are highly individualised, practical and multisensory, using games, concrete and Montessori resources, visual representations and meaningful activities to help children understand the concepts underpinning mathematics rather than relying on memorised procedures. I am very aware of the emotional impact of repeatedly finding learning more difficult than friends or classmates, so building confidence, reducing maths anxiety and creating opportunities for genuine success are central to my work. Alongside my indoor teaching space, I offer sessions in a therapeutic woodland classroom, where children who feel anxious or constrained within more traditional learning environments can learn in a calm, nurturing and responsive setting. Above all, I want children to feel listened to and understood, to recognise their strengths and to develop confidence and pride in their progress.
