I’m passionate about diversity, inclusion, learning, developing and championing those with special education needs. I’m determined to help and support people to reach their potential. I have experience of supporting dyscalculia as a parent, and with special education as an employee, employer, parent and tutor.
I’m experienced working in primary education as an Individual Needs Assistant supporting dyscalculic, dyslexic, autistic individuals and/or with ADHD needs.
I’m a parent of a dyscalculic and dyslexic child who has executive functioning difficulties and ADHD tendencies so I understand the challenges of the diagnosis and getting support but I also see the superpowers and talents that those with SEND possess.
I’ve achieved a parent-led Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for my child. I’m experienced providing SEND administration in a school environment supporting Special Education Needs Co-ordinators.
I say ‘yes’ to opportunities to raise awareness of dyscalculia and advocate for and give a voice to individuals with special education needs.
I’m experienced and passionate about supporting people to reach their own potential, whether at school, via tutoring or in the workplace.
I have successfully obtained my Level 3 & 5 qualifications in Dyscalculia and Maths Difficulties accredited by the Dyscalculia Association delivered by the guru’s Steve Chinn and Judy Hornigold. I’ve also achieved qualifications in Specific Learning Difficulties, Special Education Needs and Disabilities and Children’s Mental Health.
My ethos is to teach in a way that is fun, so it doesn’t feel like learning when you actually are! Sessions are individually tailored and specifically designed around an individual’s interests and preferences using manipulatives and a CPA (concrete, pictorial and abstract) approach. Learning is hands-on and through doing.
I invest time to get to know my tutees upfront in a way that encourages them to bring their authentic selves to their learning. I pride myself on my patient and nurturing approach. I aim to build self-esteem and confidence as well as developing numeracy and reducing maths anxiety.
I am based in the Brighton and Hove area conducting face-to-face tutoring sessions.
